The National Dog Show
Red Rover
It's normal for a Nova Scotia duck tolling retriever (or "toller") to have a slightly concerned or worried expression when resting. But put one into action, and she'll give you that great retriever smile!

Wrinklefest
Chinese shar-pei puppies Toby and Lucy are hoping for a treat. Shar-peis have a blue-black tongue, a trait shared by only one other dog breed, the chow chow.
Adorable Pups
These Akita youngsters will grow up to be sturdy, muscular dogs weighing about 100 pounds. Akitas are smart, loyal and very protective of their families.
What's Happening?
The AKC breed standard says that a French bulldog should have an expression that's "alert, curious and interested." We think Ripple qualifies!
Built for Speed
The saluki, the royal dog of Egypt, may be the oldest known breed of domesticated dog, identified as early as 329 BC. These sight hounds are fast enough to catch gazelles.
Ready for the Ring
This Bernese mountain dog is on the alert and ready to show. Known as the Berner Sennenhund in their native Switzerland, these hardworking farm dogs do everything from driving sheep to pulling carts.
Casual Dog
Eddie, a basenji, wears a comfy fleece jacket while relaxing in the benching area. Bred as hunting dogs in Africa, basenjis don't bark -- but they can make a yodeling sound.
Freckle Face
Neil is a Clumber spaniel, a low-to-the-ground sporting dog that may count the basset hound among its ancestors. Clumbers are loving and make great family pets (if you don't mind a little drool).
Extra Extra Large
Sophie (left) and JP are Irish wolfhounds, the tallest breed of dog. Though they're lean and lanky, Sophie weighs about 130 pounds, and JP is close to 200.
Snack Time
It looks like Rider the Pomeranian has just finished enjoying a tasty treat. Pomeranians descended from sled dogs like the spitz, eventually being "downsized" to their current toy proportions.
